CLEARFIELD IS ABLE TO HOLD OFF BRAVES, 6-0

It is better to give than to receive, except when it comes to football.

Bountiful proved this by dominating play early, only to have turnovers bring drives to a halt. In the end it was Clearfield's defense and the leg of Randy Carlson closing out the 6-0 Falcon win.Early on it seemed that Bountiful had things well in control. The Braves took the opening kickoff and drove the ball to the Clearfield 5 yeard line behind tailback Jon Benson. But on second and goal the Braves began giving, as the ball was popped loose and recovered by Clearfield's J.W. Kment.

The Falcon double-wing showed signs of getting off the ground in the second quarter. After a clipping call Clearfield was facing 2nd down and 26 at their own 17. QB Trevor Murray (8-15 for 94 yards) found an open Adam Arnell for 19 yards, then Jeremy Bair over the middle for 12 more. Murray hit Ray Sandoval for 19 more to put the Falcons at the Bountiful 11, but on second down Sandoval was hit on a reverse and turned the ball over.

On Bountiful's next series the turnover bug struck again as Troy Fredrickson popped the ball loose and Ryan Atkinson fell on it. Bair, Clearfield's big back, helped pound the ball to the Bountiful 9, but had to settle for a 24 yard Carlson field goal to go up 3-0.

Bountiful came right back on the ensuing kickoff with a 40 yard return by Brock Beattie. The Clearfield defense then rose to stop the Braves running attack at the Falcon 11. After a great stop by Bair, QB Terry Rose was sacked by Clint Durham and lost the ball to, you guessed it, Clearfield's Kment.

Clearfield's defense pinned the Braves back to their own 3 yard line on a sack by Marcus Mordido. After a short punt, it was the Braves' defense turn to stop the double-wing at the Bountiful 32. Coach Randy Johnson sent in Carlson to attempt what seemed to be an impossible 47 yard field goal. He managed to get enough foot on it to sneak the ball over the crossbar for a 6-0 Clearfield lead.

On Bountiful's last ditch effort, Benson (14 carries 105 yards) again pounded the ball to the Clearfield 23. But on fourth down a screen pass left the Braves short in yardage and points.
