The St. Jude Liberty Bowl announced Thursday its alliance of five football independents to compete for the host team role in 1994 and '95, shortly after athletic directors from the schools discussed conference affiliation options.

The Liberty Bowl, to be played the afternoon of Dec. 31, has a two-year agreement with the alliance - Cincinnati, East Carolina, Memphis, Southern Mississippi and Tulane - which could add Louisville next year, said bowl official Pepper Rodgers.
