All the Salt Lake City teams have been eliminated in the North American Fastpitch National championships.
The Salt Lake City Miners were eliminated by the Tiger Club of Aurora, Ill., in the NAFA Triple A bracket Saturday. The Miners finished with a 2-2 record.Larry H. Miller Chevrolet was also eliminated by Hy-Line of Elkhart, Ind., in a slugfest, 21-14. Miller Chevrolet won its first game but lost its next games.
Page Brake 23 started the tournament by having Travis Latey hurl a perfect game. Saturday, Latey, who fanned nine, pitched a one-hitter, but he lost to Pleasant Grove's Rocky Mountain Welding 2-0. And it was Dave Ratliff's turn to pitch a perfect game.
Ratliff also had an RBI double, and Nick Dorick had a sacrifice-fly RBI. The Arizona Advocates would like to use the Cottonwood Complex as their home base. During the Pioneer Days Tournament this summer, most of the players from the Advocates made up the Amigos team, which finished second.
The Advocates are unbeaten in the NAFA Triple A bracket. Saturday, the Advocates booted Denver's Molson Ice from the undefeated ranks 7-0 in a six-inning game. Cliff Wisdom, who is also an ISC Commissioner, hit a two-run home run, and Anthony Farranacchi had an RBI triple. Bob Rockwood went 3-for-3, while Lonnie Brooks hurled a one-hitter.
The Canadians of North Delta, B.C., were the other unbeaten team in the Triple A bracket. They were to meet the Advocates late Saturday night.
The Hobnoblers Tavern of Seattle, Wash., and Mickey Finns of Courtice, Ontario, were the unbeaten team in the Double A bracket, which were scheduled to meet late Saturday night.
The Salt Lake City Hydraulics were eliminated in the Double A bracket after posting a 2-2 record. The Long Beach, Calif., Sauala Painters defeated the Hydraulics 1-0 Saturday.
