Summer vacation is going, going and gone for most of Utah's public school children. Over the past week, they have been dribbling back to class, district-by-district, and Monday marked the opening for most of them along the Wasatch Front.

Children in Salt Lake District have a one-day respite, with schools opening Tuesday in their area. But the rest of Salt Lake County was in session Monday, with Jordan and Granite districts joining Murray, which got a jump on the season a week ago.Only Cache and South Summit will wait until the day after the Labor Day holiday to open school doors to students.

The return to school is a time for exuberance, and Utah's motorists are asked to be on the lookout for little folks who might forget their safety rules in the excitement of being back in school.
