LaRee Anderson, a fifth-grader at Valley View Elementary, Bountiful, is first-place winner in Utah's Tar Wars anti-tobacco campaign.
Other winners, second through fourth place, are April Robinette, Millville Elementary, Millville, Cache County; Emily Downs, Bunderson Elementary, Brigham City; and Mandy Jorgensen, Forbes Elementary, American Fork.The project is sponsored by Doctors Ought to Care, an anti-tobacco group of health-care professionals.
Participants created 40-minute presentations regarding the health dangers of smoking and also created posters. Educational materials are provided by DOC.

Students in 50 Utah schools participated this year, and the project will be expanded for the upcoming year.
