Utah players did well in the second day of competition in the U.S. Tennis Association's Boys' and Girls' 16 Zone Team Championships.

Megan Payne of St. George, currently ranked No. 30 in the country in the 14s, posted a three-set win over Lisa Papi of Northern California, on Tuesday, 2-6, 6-3, 6-4.On Monday, Payne beat Kerry Giardio, also from California, 7-6, 6-2. Kim Kelly of Salt Lake City, lost a close match to Brooke Seibel of Northern California, on Tuesday, 6-1, 4-6, 6-2.

In the boys' competition, Jordan Butler of Bountiful, took a straight-set win over Jeff Eicher of the Pacific Northwest Division, 6-1, 6-4, and Matt Stohl of Salt Lake City, beat Tad Kincaid, of the Pacific Northwest Division, 6-3, 6-7, 6-1.

There are 32 teams from the Intermountain area, made up of the top junior players

There are 160 of the top junior players in the Intermountain area entered in the event, which is being played at the University of Utah, Liberty Park and Fort Douglas. Finals rounds will be played on Thursday.
