The Aaron Kennard sheriff's team has supported the DARE (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) program with enthusiasm. The approach is not to increase taxes and work with the good kids to keep them away from gangs, alcohol and drugs, and arrest violators and get them off the streets. The concentration is on elementary school students to keep them out of gangs and drugs. To do this the number of county sheriff's deputies assigned for this has been doubled. The results so far have been favorable, When these students reach high school, there will be fewer of them in trouble.
Drive-by shootings and other gang-related crimes have been reduced significantly in the past year. The number of officers assigned to gang problems exclusively has been increased from three to nine. These nine gang specialists are so skilled they usually identify the victim and the guilty party immediately upon investigation. Violators have been arrested. This had not been done before.Paul L.
