Evans & Sutherland Design Software Group, 580 Arapeen Drive, has signed a nonexclusive distribution agreement with Nissei Sangyo Co. Ltd., a subsidiary of Hitachi Ltd., for E&S's computer-aided industrial design software and the just-announced 3D Paint software.
The software is used by designers worldwide to create concept models of products which have challenging free-form shapes, including consumer products and automobiles.A company spokesperson said 3D Paint is a breakthrough in digital paint technology, which for the first time allows users to apply color and artwork directly to the surfaces of 3D computer models, just as if painting on the surfaces of physical models with a brush.
Nissei will sell and support the Design Software Group products in Japan for companies that design and manufacture consumer products except for automobiles. Rikei Corp. will continue as the Japanese sales and support distributor for automobile companies.
