Maj. Gen. Lester L. Lyles has received the NAACP's Roy Wilkins Renown Service Award, given each year to two active-duty representatives from each service branch.

The award honors individuals who make a significant contribution to their country and the armed services in the area of civil or human rights, race relations, equal opportunity, human resources or public service and integration and promotion.Lyles, commander of the Ogden Air Logistics Center, said he has been a beneficiary of equal opportunity actions taken by older generations and, to some extent, his peers. "I don't mean that doors have been opened only by minorities. Doors have been opened by other people who have done what I try to do."
