Rowland Hall-St. Mark's school officials cut the ribbon and dedicated a new middle school Tuesday, just in time for a new school year.
Participating in the ribbon-cutting were Principal Marjorie Coombs, Chairman Mark Miller of the RHSM Board of Trustees; Jim Smith, the capital campaign chairman; and Kyle Schmitt, a sixth-grade student. The middle school is an addition to the existing upper school campus on Lincoln St., 970 E. 800 South. It will be for students in grades six through eight. About 210 will begin classes in the building, which was designed to meet special educational and developmental needs of preteens.
Rowland Hall was established in 1880 and in the early 1960s united with St. Mark's to provide services to children of all ages. The school now enrolls more than 930 students, preschool through 12th grade, on two campuses.
