John H. Zenger, age 94, passed away August 30, 1994.
He was born on January 30, 1900, the first son of John G. Zenger and Eva Barbara Sterzer. He married Leah Hancock, June 18, 1924 in the Salt Lake Temple. She passed away March 1972. Married Annie Erikson in 1974 and she passed away February 1991.For 35 years he was active in hospital administration, first at the LDS Hospital and then the Utah Valley Hospital where he was the administrator for 25 years. During that time it grew from a 55 bed hospital to a 240 bed regional medical facility. He served as president of the Western Hospital Association, Blue Cross of Utah, and the Utah Tuberculosis and Health Association. He was a Fellow of the American College of Hospital Administrators. As a member of the Provo City Charter Commission he participated in setting up the city council-manager form of government.
Active in the American Association of Retired Persons, he served as president of the Provo chapter and later state director for Utah, and was state coordinator of driver improvement.
In the LDS Church he served a mission to Germany and Switzerland 1921-1923. Later he served as a member of a bishopric, high councilman, and he held many teaching assignments.
He is survived by two sons, Jerry H. Zenger, of Salt Lake City; and John H. (Jack) Zenger of Los Altos Hills, Calif.; 14 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren, and one brother, Frank Zenger. Preceded in death by his sister, Marie Zenger Martin, and brother, Albert Zenger.
Funeral services will be Friday, September 2, 1994, 12 noon at the Cottonwood 12th Ward, 1750 Spring Lane, Salt Lake City, Utah. Friends may call Thursday, Sept. 1st, 6-8 p.m. at the Mackay Cottonwood Mortuary, 4670 So. Highland Dr. and one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment: Salt Lake City Cemetery.
