Heidi Standteiner, a three-time first-team All-America skier and a member of Utah's 1993 NCAA Championship team, has been named the 1993-94 Western Athletic Conference Stan Bates Award winner. New Mexico football player Justin Hall won the men's award.
Standteiner, a nursing major with a 3.79 GPA, is a three-time WAC scholar athlete. The former U.S. Ski Team member has also been active in the community. Standteiner is the third Ute to win the Stan Bates award in the 15 years of its existence. Collin Davis (1989-90) and Missy Marlowe (1991-92) were the others.BYU's Michele Fellows Lewis was also nominated for the award while for the men, Utah's Joe Hughes and BYU's Eric Drage were nominated.
