MUST CRITICS STATE THE OBVIOUS?

SHARE MUST CRITICS STATE THE OBVIOUS?

It's amusing that a supposedly well-informed individual, who saw the advertisements and read the reviews, went to an R-rated Schwarzenegger film and then was shocked to find the film offensive. And then that person blasted Chris Hicks for not being sufficiently offended by the film (Forum, July 27).

According to that person's logic, the Deseret News needs a female movie critic. (Huh?) When Hicks reviewed "True Lies," his final paragraph, listing offensive elements, included "plenty of violence and mayhem, some gore, profanity, vulgar gags and partial nudity." Are we suggesting that he should have included "violation of feminist sensibilities" on that list, too? Is it Chris Hicks' job to spotlight the obvious?Greg Anderson
