Ten arrests were made Thursday and Friday in the wake of a gang-related ambush on two Bountiful men that left one seriously injured. Nine of those picked up are juveniles; one is an adult.

Detective Tim Ross of Bountiful police said two girls acted as bait, calling a 20-year-old Bountiful man and arranging to meet him and a friend Tuesday night in Mueller Park.Instead, a half-dozen gang members dressed in black outfits hid in nearby bushes. When the two victims - who police say have connections to a rival gang - showed up, the attackers jumped them.

The 20-year-old was hit repeatedly with a baseball bat that was eventually broken over his head, Ross said.

"He was beaten to a pulp," said Ross. "With four to five guys beating on him for five minutes, I can't believe they didn't kill him."

The victim was taken to Lakeview Hospital, then transferred to University of Utah Medical Center in serious condition, according to Ross.

Acting on tips and prior gang investigation, Bountiful police began rounding up individuals.
