Deseret Book and American Fork-based Covenant Communications have reached a settlement over the rights to two of Hugh Nibley's books.
The settlement is confidential, but attorneys from both sides say their clients are pleased with the results. When Covenant Communications put volumes 11 and 12 of Nibley's collection on computer disk, Deseret Book filed a lawsuit against the company, accusing it of violating federal copyright laws.
Covenant Communications said Deseret Book had leased the rights of those two books to a third company, Johnston & Co. This company asked Covenant Communications to make the disks.
Deseret Book said Covenant Communications would irreparably harm Deseret Book's own marketing plans by distributing the disks, but last year U.S. District Judge David Sam ruled Deseret Book had not proved this was so.
