David L. Swan, candidate for Salt Lake County assessor, said the county needs "one-stop shopping" for motor vehicle registration.

Swan said if he's elected, he would place vehicle registration and tax collection offices in "malls, shopping centers and other businesses throughout the county."He said the satellite service centers would eliminate long lines at the central motor vehicle division/assessors office. Also, Swan said he supports a "memorandum of understanding" between the state division and assessor's office.

The agreement will eliminate the two-check requirement - one to the state and one to the county - and establish a "one check, one line" procedure.
