Mat Millenbach, current chief of staff to Assistant Interior Secretary Bob Armstrong, has been chosen as new Utah director for the Bureau of Land Management.

Acting BLM director Mike Dombeck said Monday that Millenbach will be responsible for managing more than 22 million acres of federally owned public lands in Utah."With 22 years of experience in natural resources management, Mat Millenbach has the qualifications needed to guide the BLM skillfully in the task of managing two-fifths of Utah's land area," he said.

Dombeck said Millenbach's extensive knowledge of natural resource management, proven leadership and "forward-looking vision for the Bureau of Land Management make him the right person for the top BLM post in Utah."

Millenbach has been on Armstrong's staff for 11/2 years. Prior to that, he accumulated more than 20 years of public land management experience with the government. His duties ranged from assignments in Washington to Montana and New Mexico.
