SHARE DEATH: JAMES BATES FRANCKUM, D.M.D. ""THE CHIEF""

James Bates Franckum, age 79, died August 7, 1994.

Born August 5, 1915 in Stettler, Alberta, Canada to Dr. James and Edna May Bates Franckum. Graduated from the U. of Washington and the North Pacific College of Dentistry in 1944. Married Doris Ann Hayes, August 28, 1945 in Salt Lake City. Lived in Victoria, B.C. where he served as Captain in the Canadian Dental Corps. He later practiced dentistry in Vancouver, B.C., Salt Lake City (five years) and San Leandro, California (30 years). After retiring he moved to Salt Lake City. Member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church.He was a gentleman and a very gentle man. He was a loving father, husband, and friend to all.

He grew up in Vancouver, B.C. where he acquired his love for sailing, boating and being near the sea. Avid golfer.

Survived by wife, Doris; sons, James H. Franckum (Margie), Loveland, Colorado; Kenneth H. Franckum (RaNae), West Valley; daughter, Nanette Shinkle (Les), Idaho Falls, Idaho; sister, Mrs. W. J. Thompson, Vancouver, B.C.; eight grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 11, 1994 at 10 a.m. in the Wasatch Lawn Mortuary Chapel, 3401 South Highland Drive, where friends may call Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. and Thursday, from 8:45-9:45 a.m. prior to services. Interment, Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.

Thanks to the nurses for their special attention at the St. Mark's Hospital and Woodland Park Care Center.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to the Alzheimer's Association or other charity.
