Two manufacturers have launched safety recalls because of problems with jet boats they make, the Coast Guard has announced.

Mercury Marine reported two problems with the jet propulsion drive in its Sport Jet 90 models. Those recalls involve cable clamp screws and pivot bolts, and either could result in loss of shift control, the Coast Guard said.

A recall by Tracker Marine involves missing protective boots on the solenoid starter cover of its Pro 18 Sport Jet models. The Coast Guard said this condition could result in a fire or explosion.

Both manufacturers were to have sent recall notices to owners. Those who own either of these jet boats and need more information on the recalls can contact the Coast Guard at 1-800-368-5647, or 202-267-0780 in the Washington area.
