PRES. PACKER TO OBSERVE HIS 70TH BIRTHDAY TODAY

President Boyd K. Packer of the Council of the Twelve of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will observe his 70th birthday this weekend while attending a church regional conference in Portland, Maine.

The general authority, who on June 6 was named acting president of the Council of the Twelve, will be honored at a family gathering before leaving for Maine.President Packer was born Sept. 10, 1924, in Brigham City. He was named an assistant to the Council of the Twelve on Sept. 30, 1961, and was ordained an apostle on April 9, 1970.
