OGDEN FIRE CHIEF RETIRING AFTER 20 YEARS IN DEPARTMENT; INTERIM CHIEF TO BE NAMED

Ogden City Fire Chief Jon R. Williams will retire after 20 years in the department, effective the end of this month.

Williams became an entry-level firefighter with the Ogden department in 1974, then was one of the city's first emergency medical technicians before assuming the position as chief.He introduced Ogden's ambulance service to the department, wrote the city's disaster plan, and required that all supervisors have a college degree. Williams also developed the Firefighter Reserve Corp. and instituted the multicultural recruitment program.

An interim chief will be appointed while a permanent chief is selected, according to Rocky J. Fluhart, Ogden's chief administrative officer.
