'94 Carmelite Fair to feature games, rides, entertainment

The 1994 Carmelite Fair will be Sunday, Sept. 18, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Free parking and shuttle service will be available at 5714 Holladay Blvd. Games, exhibits, carnival rides, entertainment and a wide variety of food and other offerings will be available. The public is invited. All proceeds go to fund the Carmelite Sisters and their work.

Layton church dedication

LAYTON - Dedication of the new Saint Rose of Lima Catholic Church will be Sunday, Sept. 18, at 11 a.m. at 210 S. Chapel St. The $2.15 million building sits on six acres. The 17,800-square-foot parish center comprises a church that will seat 660, a social hall and kitchen, along with an administrative wing, offices and a meeting room. The parish serves more than 1,000 families in north Davis County. Tickets are required for the dedication ceremonies, to be followed by an information reception. An open house for the public will be held Sunday, Sept. 25, from 3 to 5 p.m.

`Rally Day' for Methodists

First United Methodist Church, 203 S. 200 East, will celebrate "Rally Day" on Sunday, Sept. 11. Sunday school classes will begin with the new fall session for children and adults at 9:30 a.m., followed by a special recognition and dedication service at 11 a.m. for teachers and Sunday school leaders. A reception will follow in fellowship hall.

Parish sets spaghetti dinner

Our Lady of Lourdes Parish, 2840 S. 9000 West, will hold its annual spaghetti dinner on Sunday, Sept. 25, from 1 to 7 p.m. Cost is $6.50 for adults, $3.50 for children. The public is invited. For information, call Dian at 250-6575.

Free class on making jellies

A free class on making jellies and jams will be Thursday, Sept. 15, at 7 p.m. at the Baptist Concern Center, 1235 California Ave. Diane W. Geiger, director of Infant and Family Support Services, will present the demonstration. The public is invited.

Gang ministry workshop set

Southeast Baptist Church, 1700 E. 7000 South, will host a Gang Ministry Awareness Workshop on Thursday, Sept. 22, from 6 to 9 p.m. and Friday, Sept. 23, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Participants will learn how to develop the skills and strategies necessary for working with gang members. Lutheran school fest Friday

Christ Lutheran School will host its annual fall festival, "Climbing to the Top," on Friday, Sept. 16, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the school, 240 E. 5600 South. Carnival games, prizes, craft items, food and a silent auction will be included. Prizes include tickets to the Utah Symphony, Ballet West, Comedy Circuit, ski passes, hotel accommodations, local entertainment tickets and passes. Diocesan congress is today

Catholics from throughout Utah are meeting through today at the Red Lion Hotel for the 1994 Diocesan Pastoral Congress. The theme, "Building on a Firm Foundation," is the focus of workshops on a wide variety of topics connected with the family. Exhibits from major religious education publishers as well as several diocesan ministries are on display. The keynote address will be delivered by the Rev. Virgil Elizondo, Sister Elizabeth Thoman and Dr. Elinor Ford. Time for prayer, a celebration of Mass and a concert are planned.

Space in building available

Leaders of the South Valley Unitarian Universalist Society, 6876 S. Highland Drive, are offering to share space in their building on a rental basis with churches, non-profit group sand individuals. Members of the congregation, which for several years was housed within St. James Episcopal Church, remember the church's generosity and seek to provide a similar opportunity for others. Ogden church plans banquet

OGDEN - Second Baptist Church will host a fellowship and awards banquet on Saturday, Sept. 24, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Millcreek Club Ballroom, 500 W. 12th St. (Defense Distribution Center). Dress is semi-formal, and donations are $35 per couple or $20 per adult.
