SAN DIEGO ST. SEIZES UPSET WIN OVER PAC-10 POWER CAL, 22-20

Peter Holt kicked a 32-yard field goal as time expired, lifting San Diego State to a 22-20 win over California on Saturday night, ending a 17-game winless streak against Pacific-10 Conference schools.

San Diego State (2-0) of the Western Athletic Conference had been 0-16-1 against Pac-10 teams since beating Stanford in 1985.This was the season opener for Cal, which beat San Diego State 45-25 at Berkeley last year.

Washington St. 24, Fresno St. 3

At Pullman, Wash., Chad Davis threw two touchdown passes as Washington State overcame a sputtering start to beat Fresno State.

Oregon St. 44, Wyoming 31

At Corvallis, Ore., Reggie Tongue intercepted three passes, returned two of them for touchdowns, as the Oregon State Beavers downed Wyoming.

Texas Christian 44, New Mexico 29

At Albuquerque, N.M., Andre Davis ran for 325 yards, including a school-record 87-yard touchdown, to lead Texas Christian to victory over defensively generous New Mexico.

UTEP 22, Eastern Illinois 20

At El Paso, Texas, UTEP defensive tackle Edward Shaw blocked Steve Largent's 44-yard field goal attempt with 3:13 remaining and the Miners held on to beat Eastern Illinois.
