Marian Rhoda Maughan Jones, 75 year old Southern California resident died Friday, September 9, 1994, at the home of her daughter in Burley, Idaho of complications of a long term illness.
She was born February 4, 1919, in Rupert, Idaho the daughter of Willard C. and Elizabeth Knowlton Maughan. She received her education in Utah and Canada. She married Waldo H. Jones on March 2, 1943, in Washington D. C. She worked for the U. S. War Department in Washington D. C. during World War II. Marian lived in Covina, California for thirty-one years. During this time she worked for two school districts, was an active member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, and involved herself in church and community music. She was also an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, where she served in various capacities. She loved to travel, and spent much of her time pursuing her lifelong quest for learning at the local community colleges, and spent her life promoting the arts.Survivors include; seven children: Ellen Palmer of Tempe, Arizona; Waldo Jones, Jr. of Walnut Creek, California; Florence Conover of Pittsburg, California; Carl Jones of Mira Loma, California; Wayne Jones of Riverside, California; Rosanne Davids of Burley, Idaho; and Sylvia Jones of Salt Lake City, Utah; two brothers: Willard Maughan of Orem, Utah, and Edwin Maughan of Paradise, California. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1978.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 13, 1994, at the Brigham City, Utah 10th & 16th Ward Chapel. Burial will follow in the Brigham City Cemetery. Friends may call at the church from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the funeral on Tuesday. A memorial service will be at 6:30 p.m. Friday, September 16, 1994 at the Charter Oak Ward Chapel in Covina, California. The family suggests that memorials be given to the LDS Missionary Fund. Arrangements are under the direction of Payne Mortuary, 221 West Main Street in Burley, Idaho.
