CHICAGO EXHIBIT HIGHLIGHTS GOYA'S TRUTH AND FANTASY

More than 50 years of Francisco Goya's artistic activity, and some of his most intimate and brilliant works, are represented in an exhibition at the Art Institute of Chicago.

The 80 works on show in "Goya: Truth and Fantasy, The Small Paintings," cover a wide range of subjects, including scenes of pastoral pleasures, bullfights and nightmarish brutality. The art institute says this is the first exhibition to provide an overview of Goya's whole career as seen through his paintings in small format. The largest work in the show measures 3 feet by 1 foot; the smallest is 2 inches square.

The art institute is the only venue in this country for the exhibition, which will be on display through Oct. 16.
