JUAB SCHOOL BOARD OKS 6.3% TAX INCREASE

Property taxes will go up 6.3 percent in the Juab School District following action by the Board of Education.

The increase will generate $100,000 in new revenues for the district. The board also voted to shift $256,000 from the debt service budget into the capital improvements budget rather than reduce taxes. School officials said the shift is needed to meet on-going construction and renovation needs.A recent truth-in-taxation meeting required by state law drew only 10 people. Of the 10, only three stated opposition to the tax hike and funding shift. The increase is about $25 on a home valued at $75,000.

Without the budget shift, officials said many technology programs would either be reduced or eliminated.
