HOOPER STUDENT PARTICIPATES IN PROGRAM AT U.S. LAB

Nathan Welch, Hooper, Weber County, is one of 57 students from the United States, Puerto Rico and five foreign countries who participated in the U.S. Department of Energy's seventh annual High School Honors Program at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Oak Ridge, Tenn.

Welch attends Fremont High School and researched the use of computer desktop mapping to multiprogram environmental compliance management. His program can be used to compile information on wheelchair accessibility, loading dock locations, handicapped parking spaces and gravel locations at the national facility.The prestigious science program provides a two-week summer research experience for the selected students. They work in the ORNL Environmental Sciences Division, receiving hands-on experience aided by personnel of the research laboratory.
