Labor Day weekend in Juab County was much more peaceful than Memorial Day or the Fourth of July.
But sheriff Dave Carter said the holiday still left Juab County Jail filled to overflowing. "We had 28 people in jail cells in Juab and had to send another eight to Millard County," said Carter. He said 10 or so more had been booked and then released. The county's various recreation sites had 50,000 to 60,000 visitors - compared to 80,000 on Memorial Day weekend.
"Everything was full, but no place was overcrowded," he said. The Little Sahara Sand Dunes and all mountain campgrounds were full. Yuba Lake had a high number of visitors, but the beaches were not overcrowded to the point that law enforcement could not function.
Burraston Ponds was full, as well, he said, and one assault occurred there when a group of people stopped to talk to some campers. "They were people they weren't even involved with," said Carter. "They beat up one guy in the group of campers."
A couple of assault arrests were also made at Yuba Lake.
