KBYU announces women's sports TV package

PROVO - BYU officials have announced that seven BYU women's athletic events will be shown on KBYU-TV channel 11 this year.

Beginning with a Sept. 28 tape-delay broadcast of the Sept. 24 volleyball match at Fresno State, KBYU will air three volleyball matches, three basketball games, and one gymnastics meet.

The volleyball schedule includes: Sept. 28, 10:30 p.m. - Fresno State at Fresno (tape delay - played Sept. 24); Oct. 7, 10:30 p.m. - Utah at BYU, (tape delay - Oct. 7); Nov. 19, 11 p.m. and Nov. 21, 11 p.m. - New Mexico at BYU (tape delay - played Nov. 19).

BYU hosts Mizuno Challenge Friday, Saturday

After a one-year hiatus, BYU renews a tradition when it hosts the Mizuno Challenge Friday and Saturday in Provo. The 1994 return of the challenge features 16th-ranked Southern California, Gonzaga, and Utah.

On Friday, it's Utah vs. Gonzaga, 6 p.m.; BYU vs. Southern Cal, 8 p.m. SFH. On Saturday it's Utah vs. Southern Cal., 6 p.m. BYU vs. Gonzaga 8 p.m. All BYU matches will be broadcast live on KSRR radio 1400 AM in Utah County.

Men's volleyball coach to assist at world meet

COPENHAGEN, Demark - Carl McGown, the BYU men's volleyball coach, will join the U.S. team this weekend as an assistant coach for exhibition matches in Denmark and for the World Championships in Athens, Greece.

Y. golfers begin year in New Mexico

ALBUQUERQUE - The BYU men's golf team begins 1994-95 competition with back-to-back tournaments at New Mexico and the University of Washington. This weekend is the William H. Tucker Invitational with 36 holes on Friday and 18 on Saturday. The Husky Invitational has 36 holes Monday and 18 on Tuesday.

Ags host defending national champs in volleyball

The Aggies open their 1994 home season Friday night with a bang. Long Beach State, the 1993 NCAA national champion, comes to town for a pair of Big West Conference matches. The Aggies, 1-7, and The Beach will square off Friday and Saturday evenings, each match with a 7 p.m. start time.

Cross country teams set for early launch

Head coach Gregg Gensel and his Aggie teams will travel to the College of Southern Idaho Invitational, Saturday, Sept. 17. With the men's 8K race slated for a 10 a.m. start (women's 5K to follow), the team will have a dawn's early launch Saturday. Teams expected to compete Saturday include Utah State, Boise State, Weber State, CSI, and Ricks College.
