Saying he has been inundated with calls of support, Sheriff Glenn Clary Thursday announced he will run a write-in campaign to keep his job in the November election.
Clary was defeated in the June Republican primary by one of his patrol sergeants, Sgt. Robert Davis. Clary was seeking his second term."I had not planned to go any further than the primary, whatever the outcome," Clary said.
"However, in the past week a group of very concerned citizens have come forth and have asked me to be their draftee for a write-in. After much discussion and learning of all the research and hard work they have done, I have decided that I simply cannot disappoint them," Clary said in a statement Thursday.
One point of contention between Clary and Davis was a statement Davis used in his campaign that 83 percent of the deputies in the patrol division supported him.
Clary attacked that Thursday, noting while it may be true, the patrol division has only 30 deputies out of the department's 220 employees.
