BRIGHTON HOSTS 1ST BIG CROSS COUNTRY MEET

The prep season's first big cross country invitational is Saturday when Brighton High hosts the annual Wahsatch Revendous. Races begin at 9 a.m. at the Salt Lake County Equestrian Park at 10800 South 2200 West.

The unique format features seven varsity races, each pairing different groups of runners. For example, following JV races at 9:00 and 9:30 a.m., the first varsity race at 10:10 will be for all school's seventh-seeded runners. The next race will feature teams' number six runners, and so on until the final race at 11:15 a.m., which will feature all top-seeded runners. As in any cross country meet, the scores from all seven races will then be added together to determine final team scores."It gives us all a chance to see how our runners stack up against others in their same classification," said Will Cowden, Brighton High coach who is helping coordinate the meet.

Defending champ Mountain View of Orem, which scored an incredibly low nine points in winning last year, is the favorite again Saturday.
