A city of tepees will spring up this weekend as Scouts of the Great Salt Lake Council set up camp for the annual Utah Heritage Jamboral near Park City.
"A New Frontier" is the theme for the encampment of more than 12,000 boys and their leaders at Swaner's Spring Creek Angus Ranch, just off I-80 at Kimball's Junction."By exploring different frontiers of Utah, we gain a realization of our rich heritage . . . (and get) a preview" of the future . . .," said Leo Monsen, chairman for the third time of the encampment.
Council officials say the gathering gives youths an opportunity to experience much of the same excitement they would experience at a national jamboree. Bands and other entertainers will perform on three stages, and a fireworks display also is planned Friday night.
Exhibits, trading posts, games, competitions and a variety of other entertainment are planned following a flag ceremony and parade Saturday morning.
