2 SILENT HOTEL MOVIES TO KICK OFF NEW SEASON OF FILMS AT ORGAN LOFT

The classic film "The Last Laugh" and the Laurel & Hardy short "Double Whoopee" kick off a new season of silent movies with live music at the Organ Loft on Thursday and Friday, Sept. 22-23.

The 1924 German film "The Last Laugh" is told entirely through pantomime and camera movement, without title cards, the story of a puffed-up doorman at an exclusive hotel who is humiliated when he discovers he is being demoted. Emil Jannings stars in the film, directed by F.W. Murnau ("Nosferatu").Stan & Ollie also play doormen at a luxurious hotel in "Double Whoopee," a 1929 short, as they cause the usual havoc (which includes closing a limousine door on the skirt of a very young Jean Harlow).

Blaine Gale provides live music on the mighty Wurlitzer Theater Pipe Organ.

Admission is $5; phone 485-9265 for reservations. The Organ Loft is located at 3331 S. Edison St. (east of State Street, just south of 3300 South).
