Reigning champion Uintah High School found out just how determined the rest of Region 10 is to knock it off the road to a title repeat in Thursday night's 3-2 win over Wasatch. The Utes escaped a late comeback by the Wasps in the region opener.

Ute All-State forward Melissa Busch maneuvered her team's way to the net twice, including the game-winning direct kick with five minutes left on the clock.Uintah led 1-0 at halftime and added another goal before Carol Sparti fired Wasatch's first score. Wasp striker Kris Golightly then hit the net for a 2-2 tie minutes before Busch's winning goal.

Region 1

Weber 1, Northridge 0

At Northridge, in a battle of undefeated Region 1 teams, the Knights and Warriors remained in an even deadlock until Weber's Stacy Vogt shot the winning goal off an assist from Megan Fuller in the 70th minute.

Layton 3, Fremont 1

At Layton, the Lancers picked up their first region win by jumping out to a 2-0 lead in the first half. Fremont's Kayci Hess hit the Silver Foxes' lone goal.

Roy 6, Clearfield 1

At Clearfield, Kori Hansen and Shay Hansen both fired two in the nets for the Royals who now are tied for first with Weber for the lead in Region 1.

Region 2

Bountiful 9, Highland 0

At Highland, the fourth-ranked Braves took their region opener behind the offensive drive of senior forward Karie Allen who scored three goals against the Rams.

Viewmont 7, Cottonwood 0

At Viewmont, Viking forward Becky Ward led with three goals along with Tiffany Roundy's two scores in Viewmont's region opener. Sophomores Sarah Poloni and Jennifer Randall each added goals for goalie Kristel Whitten's shutout.

Skyline 1, Davis 0

At Skyline, in overtime Eagle goalkeeper Tatie Welsh saved 24 Dart shots on goal to end regulation. Skyline then used new keeper Kelly Duckworth to pull out the 3-2 shutout win. Duckworth made one of the penalty kicks for Skyline.

Region 3

West Jordan 1, Bingham 0

At West Jordan, the Jaguars are now 2-0 in region as Angie Palmer scored the only goal with an assist from Anna Chadwick. Goalkeeper Angie Burton picked up the shutout.

Kearns 2, Hunter 1

At Kearns, with a 1-1 tie going in the second half Kearns striker Leslie Thompson nailed her second goal for the Cougars to seal their first win in region play.

Taylorsville 11, Granger 0

At Taylorsville, Lindsay Soja shot four goals for the Warriors, which gives her seven in the last two games. Anne Gregory shot a hat trick against the Farmers and keeper Teresa Mecham recorded the shutout on the Farmers.

Region 4

Mountain View 6, American Fork 0

Shauna Rohbock hit four goals to set the new prep career scoring record of 117 goals. Bruins Amy VanDyke and Annalyn Benson each added one goal to make M.V. 2-0 in region, tied with Alta and Brighton.

Brighton 6, Orem 0

Emily Sutherland recorded a hat trick and one assist as the Bengals blanked the Tigers. Regan Despain and Amber Anderson added goals, and Jenn Nelson scored on a header off a corner kick for Brighton.

Alta 2, Hillcrest 1

At Alta, in overtime the Hawks fought off a stubborn Husky team with a 3-2 count in a shootout. Regulation goals were scored by Tanya Skroback for Alta and Lynette Dickerson for Hillcrest.

Region 5

Ben Lomond 2, Bear River 0

At Bear River, the Scots now stand alone in first place with goals by Brooke Greenfield and freshman Terri Ray in the region win. Tara Christiansen and Diana Lee supplied Ben Lomond assists for both first half goals.

Mountain Crest 2, Sky View 1

At Mountain Crest, Jenny Miller scored a goal in the second half of overtime to give the Mustangs the victory. Miller was assisted by Mandy Olsen. Lisa Giles also scored for Mountain Crest. Rachel Ward scored the Bobcats only goal on a penalty shot.

Box Elder 2, Ogden 1

At Box Elder, the Bees picked up their first region win with a goal by Kacie Lefores and game-winning penalty kick by Brandy Forsgren. Ogden's Emily Vause put Ogden up 1-0 before Box Elder tied it 1-1 at halftime.

Region 6

Judge Memorial 6, Granite 1

At Granite, Kelly Alamilla shot a hat trick for the Bulldogs to help them make a 1-0 start in region competition. Jean Stuyvesant and Stephanie Schwobe added goals.

Region 7

Woods Cross 8, West 0

Kathy Bullock dished out four assists and chipped in one goal, leading the Wildcats past the Panthers. Sophomore Celeste Collins and junior Megan Morris each scored two goals for Woods Cross who outshot West, 50-5.

Olympus 3, East 1

At Olympus, Titan sweeper Tara McNeil put Oly on top with a goal in the eighth minute, followed by two goals from teammate Jane Cardall to keep their team undefeated and alone at the top of Region 7.

Murray 6, Tooele 0

The Spartans spread out five goals by Julie Peterson, Heidi Murdock, Kari Taylor, Katie Irion and Mandy Woodall to beat the Buffaloes. Tooele had an on-goal to give Murray an extra point.

Region 10

Park City 2, Lehi 0

At Park City, the lethal passing Miners upset third-ranked Lehi with two goals from Anne Knudson with assists from Candice Christiansen and Tara Reeves.
