LIGHTNING STARTS 2 BLAZES; 3RD NEAR GUN RANGE RAGES

Lightning strikes Thursday started two small fires east of Ogden, but fire officials' main concern Friday was the Gun Range Fire on the Weber-Cache county line.

The fire started Tuesday near a private shooting range. A tracer bullet is being blamed for starting the fire.Firefighters thought they had the upper hand on the blaze until high winds pushed it out of control again early Thursday. "It's at about 1,200 acres now. The information we get from the helicopter pilot, who is a pretty good source, is he thought they had it pretty well in hand as of last evening," said Dick Kline, interagency fire center spokesman.

Five 20-member fire crews plus bulldozer drivers and pilots worked the fire Thursday.

The fire remains 80 percent contained, but an official estimate when the fire might be under control has not been announced.
