TCI Cablevision of Utah is donating $5 from each new connection or addition to existing service to its education effort in Utah.

Through Oct. 20, the money will be accumulated to support teacher grants to attend TCI's J.C. Sparkman Center for Educational Technology in Littleton, Colo. The center provides hands-on experience in state-of-the-art technologies, which teachers then are expected to share with their peers in their home states.Utah schools have been invited to apply for the grants. If there is additional money, the company will donate television sets and VCRs to local schools.

Oct. 4, there will be a live television broadcast from the digital television facility in Littleton. TCI Education Day will offer a full day of commercial-free educational programming for various grade levels and in a variety of subjects. The event is designed to educate teachers on the many educational programs available through cable TV.

TCI-Utah has formed partnerships with local schools, including Libbie Edward and Salt Lake Community High School, to provide equipment, programs and instruction in using television as an educational tool.
