The City Council has named a full-time administrator to run the city's day-to-day operations.
John Newman, 50, a local government consultant, started his new job Monday."I like to get in and help communities," he said.
Newman will have plenty to do in Highland, one of Utah's fastest growing small cities. The council is currently wrestling with a pressurized irrigation system, a citywide sewer system and residential and commercial development.
Newman said he will spend at least a year with Highland and continue to run his government consulting business, Newman and Associates. He will earn $48,000 annually from the city. The salary does not include medical benefits.
A native of Thatcher, Box Elder County, Newman has a bachelor's degree in political science from the University of Utah and master's in public administration from George Washington University. He resides in West Valley City.
