F-16 FIGHTER GOES DOWN NEAR THE GREAT SALT LAKE

An F-16 fighter from Hill Air Force Base crashed Tuesday morning approximately 6300 South and 6900 West West in Hooper near the Great Salt Lake. The pilot ejected over the Great Salt Lake. He was rescued from the lake by a military helicopter, which returned him to the base. The wreckage did not land near homes or other structures.

Hill officials confirmed the crash but released no details about the pilot's condition or any circumstances known about the crash. Before Tuesday, the most recent F-16 crash from Hill was in October 1992, when a jet crashed onto I-84 near South Weber, Davis County. The pilot successfully ejected from that jet just before the crash.
