Mary Alice King Jones, 68, died peacefully in her home in the early morning hours of Sept. 18, 1994 in Salt Lake City.
Born July 20, 1926 in Salt Lake City to Creighton G. and Alice Edwards King. Mary Alice graduated from the St. Mark's Hospital School of Nursing and from the University of Utah. Her love of life included fishing, boating and back country exploration in places dear to her heart. Her extraordinary artistic talent in knitting and needle point was shared with hundreds of people. Those with whom she shared her last hours know that the grace of her death was surpassed only by the grace of her life.Mary Alice devoted her lifetime to serving her family, friends, and her community. The love she brought to family and friends in her private life she also extended to the people in her public life. Throughout her professional life as a nurse, culminating in 23 years of service at Holy Cross Hospital in Salt Lake City, she improved the lives of countless people with her gift of healing.
She is survived by her husband, C. Robert Jones; her children, Amy Ann, Clark Robert (Robyn Skudlarek) and Scott Cameron (Jan); her sister, Patricia M. (Richard H.) King; her brother, Thomas C. (Jody) King; and her grandchildren, Misty Dawn, Megan Cameron and `OiwiHawai'iokalani Robert Waipa Parker Jones. She is also survived by a legion of other family members and friends who discovered, through her passage, that we'd had an angel in our midst all along.
At her request a wake and celebration of her life will be held for family and close friends on Friday, September 23 from 5-8 p.m. at the Jones residence. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in her memory to the Utah Emergency Medical Training Council (UEMTC) in recognition of her lifelong commitment to community service.
