KEEP RELIGION'S TAX STATUS AS IS

In William J. Luttrell's letter of Sept. 12, he says that to collect more taxes we should tax the "religion industry." I never knew that religion was an industry.

Would Mr. Luttrell want me to be taxed and pay more than I now do as I pay 10 percent tithing to my church? Churches donate millions of dollars to causes of famine and disasters throughout the world, also to the homeless and others in our community. This saves everyone from paying more taxes.Would Mr. Luttrell be willing to pay more taxes to make up for these donated millions?
