WSU SCIENCE PROFESSOR AWARDED $5,000 STIPEND FROM FOUNDATION TO HELP PAY HIS PROFESSIONAL COSTS

L. Gary Nielsen, Weber State University professor of clinical laboratory science, has earned the D. Wade Mack Endowed Chair in the college of health professions at Weber State University.

From 1994 through 1997, he will receive $5,000 to defray costs of professional activities while continuing to teach.Funding for the position comes from D. Wade Mack through the Edith Dee Mack Green Charitable Foundation.

Nielsen plans to use the award to improve teaching materials and publish study guides for his classes.

He said he tries to make the classroom a non-threatening environment and is especially sensitive to the needs of older, nontraditional students who might feel ill at ease.
