Smokey Bear will be visiting local libraries during the next few weeks in honor of Fire Prevention Month and Smokey's 50th anniversary.

Children attending the special story times will learn all about Smokey and meet him in person.His schedule is as follows:

- Tuesday, Sept. 27 at 10 a.m., Heber City Library, 188 S. Main.

- Monday, Oct. 17, 6:30-7 p.m. and 7:30-8 p.m., Provo City Library, 425 W. Center.

- Tuesday, Oct. 18, 10:30 a.m., Orem City Library, 56 N. State.

- Wednesday, Oct. 19, 11 a.m., Springville City Library, 50 S. Main.

- Thursday, Oct. 20, 3 p.m., Spanish Fork City Library, 49 S. Main.

A series of open houses is also scheduled for Smokey where participants can get hands-on experience with firefighting equipment, learn about urban-wildland interface and the requirements to become an official Junior Forest Ranger.

They are:

- Tuesday, Sept. 27, 4-7 p.m., Heber Ranger District, 2460 S. Highway 40.

- Wednesday, Sept. 28, 4-7 p.m., Nephi Forest Service office, 740 S. Main.

- Thursday, Sept. 29, 4-7 p.m., Provo City Park, Center Street and University, north of the Tab-er-nacle.

- Thursday, Oct. 6, 11-2 p.m., Spanish Fork Ranger District, 44 W. 400 North.
