FRANKLIN SETS '95 DATES; JUNIOR GOLFERS HONORED

The Franklin Quest Championship will be played later than ever next year, the week of Aug. 28 to Sept. 3 at Park Meadows Golf Club, Franklin president Arlen Crouch announced Thursday.

Traditionally the Senior PGA tournament has been played in August, usually the final weekend of the month. However, this year tournament officials were given the option of the weeks of July 17-23 or the one over Labor Day weekend."We're excited about the dates for next year's tournament," said Crouch. "This will be the latest the tournament has ever been held and it will coincide nicely with the Labor Day weekend. We expect a lot of people to come to the tournament and take advantage of the long weekend."

Crouch said one of the main reasons for not choosing the mid-July dates was that those dates conflicted with the British Open, which Tom Weiskopf, Franklin's '94 champion, and Gary Player, a Franklin spokesman, were committed to playing in.

Boyd Summerhays and Jamie Stevenson captured golfer of the year honors at the Utah Junior Golf Association awards banquet Wednesday night. Among the other golfers honored were Derek Fox and Jessica Gardner in the age 13-14 division, Jake Ellison and Nichole Newren in the 11-12 division and Stephen Newren and Megan Thurman in the 10 & under division.

The Cleo Branca Award for sportsmanship was given to Steve Day and Kami Whitehead. Others who received awards were Sara Hale, Angela Bradford, Kristen Elliot, Laura Richards, Scott Hailes, Chris Matthews, Brandt Hoffman, and Casey Fowles.
