About 480 depot employees could be laid off in June when a phase of maintenance work at the depot ends, the Army reported Thursday.
Depot spokesman Dave Hunt said maintenance workers in truck and generator rebuilding shops have known the layoffs would be coming as the work force shrinks due to realignment at the post. "By April 30, 1995, we should be finished with all of our maintenance workload."TAD currently has about 1,488 employees. The projected employment level after the layoffs is 1,007.
TAD officials have requested a voluntary early retirement authority and voluntary separation incentive pay in con-nec-tion with the layoffs. The depot's Labor Management Committee will also seek a federal Job Training Partnership Act grant to help employees obtain training for new jobs.
