First Congressional District challenger Bobbie Coray says she knows how to save the U.S. military $9 billion.

Just make our rich allies help pay the bill for keeping U.S. military forces in their countries - a plan she says Rep. Jim Hansen has voted against.A spokesman for the seven-term congressman said Coray is ignoring the fact that Hansen supported alternative measures with less social spending and pork.

Citing Congressional Budget Office estimates, Coray said if Italy, Germany, the United Kingdom and South Korea paid 75 percent of the cost of stationing U.S. troops in their countries, the U.S. would save $2.8 billion a year.

"It's unfortunate that at a time when we are closing bases and eliminating jobs at home, that we are not receiving from our allies their fair share of the costs," she said.

American troops overseas provide stability to whatever region they are stationed in, she said.
