WILDCATS SUFFER 1ST LOSS OF SEASON AGAINST EAGLES

Jason Patrick scored two touchdowns with a couple of 1-yard hops, leading Eastern Washington to a 24-6 Big Sky Conference victory over Weber State on Saturday.

The Eagles (2-1, 1-1) dominated defensively, holding Weber State to 84 yards (3-1, 1-1) in the first half.Patrick led off the scoring for Eastern with a 1-yard touchdown run with 13:20 left in the first half.

Gerrold Jackson made it 13-0 when he connected on a 12-yard throw from Todd Bernett, who went 20-of-36 for 254 yards passing.

Patrick ran another 1-yarder with 10:42 left in the game, followed by a 2-point conversion, before Tom Zurfluh booted a 37-yard field goal to seal the victory.

The Wildcats scored with 2:27 left on a 45-yard touchdown pass from Bryan Martin to Dell Stilson.

It was the first road game of the season for Weber State, who beat three different Montana teams at home including an upset victory over Montana State last week, to start off the season.

Coming into the game, the Wildcats led the Big Sky in pass defense, total defense and scoring defense. But Eastern Washington proved to be the better team defensively Saturday, holding Weber State to 281 yards total offense, of which only 58 came on the ground.

Martin completed 17 of 32 passes for 223 yards and no interceptions for Weber State. But the Wildcat's lack of a running game was evident as they only gained nine first downs for the game.

The Wildcats did hold the Eagles to 397 yards total offense.
