A CONTEST TO SPUR `NORMAL' PIANISTS

The Joy Robin Piano Competition, aimed at beginning and intermediate students, will take place Nov. 17-19 at various locations in and around the Salt Lake Valley.

Named for his own piano teacher, Joy Robbins, the contest was put together by Matthew Evans of Draper with the aim of motivating what he calls "normal piano kids." Entry fees range from $10 to $15, with prizes available in age and skill divisions spanning pre-school through 12th grade.Participants are required to perform one solo piece of no more than 8 minutes' duration. Each will receive a formal evaluation.

Registration forms must be received by Nov. 1. They are available at Daynes Music, Day Murray Music, Riverton Music and Summerhays Music Center.
