Preschoolers learn differently and perceive the world differently than adults.

As a help in providing the best learning environment at home for young children, Utah State University will present Parents Fair Saturday, Oct. 1.The program, from 9:30 to 11:45 a.m. at the Edith Bowen School on the USU campus, is free and open to anyone interested.

Marti Dever of USU's early childhood faculty, who is coordinating the program with Debra Byrnes, said the aim is to educate parents to prepare their children for school.

Most of the program will consist of four 35-minute breakout sessions.

Elaine Ashcroft, an emeritus professor and expert in parenting issues, will talk about discipline; Shelly Lindauer of USU's College of Family and Human Development will present ideas on selecting educational toys; elementary education specialist Sheri Noble will discuss everyday activities to foster success in school; and Lisa Sweeten will talk about enhancing a child's creativity.

Parents Fair is sponsored by a grant from the Emma Eccles Jones Foundation. Call the Edith Bowen School (797-3085) to reserve a spot.
