ZCMI'S WINDOW DISPLAYS BRING 5 FIRSTS AND 5 SECONDS IN INTERNATIONAL VISUAL MERCHANDISING COMPETITION

ZCMI has won five first place and five second place awards in the 1994 international display competition of Visual Merchandising and Store Display's annual competition to honor the nation's best retail window displays.

Nancy Mortensen, vice president of marketing for the Salt Lake City-based department store chain, said ZCMI competed against such well-known international retailers as Lord and Taylor, Bass, Marshall Fields, Talbots and Saks Fifth Avenue, and swept every category in the competition.Since 1970, ZCMI has won hundreds of awards in the VM&SD competition, said Mortensen.

"We certainly don't ever take these prestigious awards for granted," she said. "We have to work harder every year to make sure our window displays have an impact."

Directed by Mike Stephens, the ZCMI marketing department has 15 "visual merchandising" specialists.
