PROVO GETS $1.5 MILLION FOR NEW I-15 INTERCHANGE

Provo will receive $1.5 million in federal funds for construction of a new I-15 interchange at University Avenue, Rep. Bill Orton, D-Utah, announced Wednesday.

The U.S. House of Representatives approved the funds as part of the 1995 Transportation Appropriations Act."Anyone who has had to deal with sometimes enormous traffic backups at the I-15/University Avenue in-ter-change knows only too well how badly these improvements are needed at this interchange," Orton said.

The interchange will provide new southbound exit and entrance ramp connections and a new northbound exit between 1860 South and I-15. The second phase of the project, which will be funded in future years, includes a northbound entrance ramp from 1860 South and a new I-15 "flyover" entrance ramp from University Avenue.

The Utah Department of Transportation has estimated the project to cost about $30 million.
